District 17 Update July 2011

District 17 Night at Slugger Field

Thanks to a partnership between the Louisville Bats and Metro Government, District 17 residents have the opportunity to receive vouchers to the July 25 game with the Charlotte Knights.  The game begins at 7:05 p.m.  Each voucher can be redeemed for one reserved seat ticket as well as another voucher for a free hot dog and soft drink.  The number of vouchers is limited, so requests are reserved in the order in which they are received.  If you are interested in attending the game, please e-mail your request to or call 574-1117.


National Night Out

The Louisville Metro Police Department's 8th Division will once again be participating in National Night Out.  This year's event will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the Middletown Target located at 12975 Shelbyville Road.  You will be able to get child ID cards, neighborhood block watch information, meet with your neighbors and community leaders and talk to representatives of MetroSafe, LMPD and more.  Free hot dogs and sodas will also be provided. 


Shredding Event

The Lyndon Area Business Association (LABA) is partnering with the Lyndon Fire Department to host a mini-shredding event for the community.  On Saturday, July 16 from 9-11:30 a.m. residents can drop off items to be shredded at the Lyndon Fire Department located at8126 New LaGrange Road.  A+ Paper Shredding will be there to provide its services at no cost.  Any donations made will go to Supporting Heroes, an organization that supports families of police, fire andEMSheroes killed in the line of duty.  Any questions regarding this event can be directed to Lyndon Fire at 425-7474. 


NELBA Luncheon

The North East Louisville Business Association (NELBA) is sponsoring a lunch and networking event on Thursday, July 21 from 11:15 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the St. Matthews Catering and Banquet Hall located at 4176 Westport Road.  The cost is $12 for members of NELBA and $15 for non-members.  The topic of the lunch is "Louisville Television History: From Randy and Cactus to Muhammad Ali and Presto the Clown."  The speaker will be David Inman, author and television trivia columnist.  If you are interested, please RSVP by Tuesday, July 19 to or 855-3460.


LG&E Outage Application

 An outage map application is now available for download on your iPhone, Android or Blackberry.  Customers can search for "LG&E and KU Outage Maps" within the app stores of each of these mobile phones.  Once downloaded, customers can view the outage map in a platform designed specifically for a mobile interface.  The app is updated automatically in regular intervals based on information available in the LG&E and KU outage management system.
